Punakha winter trek is a famous trek to go for this winter. This trek takes us to central Bhutan. Trekkers who have a limited time of 7 days can also be part of this trek. Bhutan Punakha winter trek offers a delightful experience of the Bhutanese countryside. We will see lush valleys, beautiful landscapes, Bhutanese people, and culture.  Punakha Winter Trek includes Punakha Dzong and Pho Chu (Pho-Chu means Male River). This river drains in the remote Lunana region. You will have a steady half-day climb into a forest of scattered long needle Cheri pine. Make sure to fill your water bottle before leaving Punakha.

This Punakha Winter Trek starts with your arrival in Thimpu. We start by taking a drive through Dechenchholing Palace and Pangri Zampa Lhakhang. We walk for 2 days to make this tour a success. Walking days are long but easy. So be sure to enjoy while taking your step in this forest of Bhutan.

Punakha trek is one of the enthusiastic trekking and is best for November till April. This trek invades the trekker to view the beautiful, snowy scenery of mountains. We will also visit Thimphu (capital) city, Punakha, and Wangdiphodrang town.

Itinerary

Day 01: ARRIVE PARO

Upon arrival meet and assist by Parikrama Treks representative. Transfer to the hotel. We provide a short briefing about Punakha Winter Trek.

Day 02: PARO SIGHTSEEING

Today we will have sightseeing in Paro and Thimpu.

Day 03: DRIVE THIMPHU TO SHONG PANG

Today we drive north up the valley towards Dechencholing Palace. We will also visit Thimphu Chu and Pangrizampa the last motor road point.

Day 04: TREK SHONG PANG TO DOPSHING PANG (3490 m)

Today we ascend our trail to reach the pass called Sinchula. The trek from the pass is more or less descends till you reach camp.

Day 05: TREK DOPSHING PANG TO CHORTEN NINGPO (2,700 m)

Today we will walk into thick forests of the Punakha area.

Day 06: TREK CHORTEN NINGPO TO ZOMLINGTHANG

For about 2/3 hours, we trek through the villages, and then you will reach the motor road.

Day 07: TREK ZOMLINGTHANG TO LIMBUKHA (2,250 m)

We will follow the motor road till Punakha Dzong. Today we will cross the Pho Chu river, the river that drains the remote Lunana region.

Day 08: TREK LIMBUKHA TO CHUNGSAKHA

Today we follow the trail through the thick forest of oak spices and Rhododendrons. We will reach a small monastery called Drukpa Kuenley. Walking downhill we will reach the motor road where we catch a car to Wangdi.

Day 09: DRIVE WANGDI TO THIMPHU

After breakfast drive to Punakha Dzong and to Thimphu.

Day 10: DEPARTURE

 Punakha winter Trek Joureny Ends.
