Trip Overview

Kanchenjunga trek to the third highest mountain in the world or “Kang-chen-zod-nga”, meaning “Five Great Treasuries of the Snow”, actually, has seven major summits. Located in the far north-eastern corner of Nepal, Mt Kanchenjunga is considered to be one of the most beautiful mountain massifs in the world. To the locals, Kanchenjunga (8585 m.), the third highest mountain in the world, is the abode of gods who bestow prosperity and benevolence on them and their lands. The avalanches that Kanchenjunga throws down are said to be the largest anywhere! This long journey into the Kanchenjunga base camp is less crowed compared to other trekking trail with a unique insight of Nepal eastern rural lifestyle of the country.

Your journey of Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek leads you to the remote area begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Biratnagar in the east of Nepal, followed by a drive to Basantapur (2220 m,) from where you head north to the villages of Chauki (2700 m), Gorja Gaon (2000 m), Amjilasa (2490 m), Ghunsa (3340 m), Khambachen (4040 m) and Lhonak (4790 m) to Pangpema (5140 m.) which also serves as the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek for expeditions attempting the North Face of Kanchenjunga and the culmination of the first part of the trek.

You then retrace your steps to the village of Ghunsa and back to Taplejung or Tumlingtar for your flight back or you can head east over the Lapsang La (5110 m.) to Tseram and Ramze and then to the Yalung Glacier (4800 m.) towards the south which completes the second part of your journey. From here you start on your return journey heading south through the villages of Torontan, Yamphudin, Mamankhe and Keswa to Taplejung from where you will board and aircraft for Biratnagar and then fly out to Kathmandu after finishing your Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek.
