Trip Overview

Annapurna Mardi Himal Trek is short and easy trek on a snowcapped peaks and high base camp on the Annapurna Range similar to ghorepani poonhill trekking. Mardi Himal base camp trekking is a new trekking trail around the periphery of the Annapurna Mountain range. This is a combination of cultural heritage and a easy peak climbing experience.

It is a newly explored Eco trekking in the Annapurna region. This trek is ideal for those people who want to trek in the off the beaten trails with no tourist around. This is yet to be explored virgin trekking trail in Nepal. This is also referred as the shortest trip to the base camp of Mardi Himal, in the Annapurna Mountain range.

This Trek is often referred to as the Ghorepani Poonhill trek ,Annapurna Mardi Himal Trek  and the Sunrise Trek with its high and low base camp destination for best views of Annapurna range. The whole short and easy trek goes through some easy terrain so your physical conditions are not very important unlike other high altitude treks.

The trail goes through settlements of different ethnic groups, paddy fields and some lovely streams. The trial also offers magnificent view of the mountains such as fishtail, Annapurna, Annapurna South and many more in the Annapurna range.

This is a moderate trek where you see much more than doing a challenging trek.As the name itself suggests, the Annapurna Mardi Himal Trek is an Annapurna View Point Trek that amidst the Annapurna Mountain Range in Central Nepal.

Annapurna Range is one of the most majestic and mesmerizing mountain ranges in the world. It is the 10th highest and almost goes up to the height of 8,091 meters above the sea level. The beautiful eye-catching mountain scenery is totally out of this world and is a trekker’s paradise.


Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m)

Once you reach the international airport in Kathmandu, our representative from Adventure Mission Nepal Treks & Expedition (AMN) will greet and assist you towards the hotel.

Day 02: Drive to Pokhara (830m) (6/7 Hrs private Drive)

After breakfast we will drive or fly to Pokhara. (You can choose either flight or driving option based on the cost you want to pay). The drive is 7 hours and flight will take only 30 minutes. Pokhara is a beautiful city which is in close proximity with the mountains and lakes in this city are very beautiful.

Day 03: Trek to Tikhedhunga/Ulleri ( 1950m) 4/5 Hrs

The trek starts from Nayapul which is 45 minutes drive from Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna Region. After reaching Nayapul we start walking amidst the sub-tropical valley forests filled with a variety of vegetation. Sometimes we will have to make our way through the carved trail on the edge of a cliff. After walking past Tikhedhunga we will reach the base of the hill that leads us to our first stop for the night i.e. Ulleri. We need to climb nearly 3500 steps up the hill to reach this beautiful village.

Day 04: Trek to Ghorepani (2875m) 6/7 Hrs

After breakfast, we start our walk along the road that leads to the famed Rhodendrons forest of Ghorepani from where you can also have a glimpse of the Annapurna South that is hidden slightly by a ridge. We walk past tiny villages of Banthanti and Nangethanti to reach Ghorepani. The majority of population in Ghorepani belongs to the Poon Magar community and like I said earlier it is also home to the largest variety of the beautiful flower named Rhododendron.

Day 05: Trek to Poon Hill (3210m) – Tadapani (2630m) 7 Hrs

Early morning we will hike for 45 minutes to reach Poonhill (3210m) which would give us the view of a magnificent new sun rising over the Manaslu range. After breakfast we leave behind Ghorepani and pass through the colorful lush rhododendron forest on the stone paved trails for nearly an hour to reach Gurung Hill, which is at the similar height of Poon Hill where we can see the awe inspiring view of Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Dhampus Peak with surrounding peaks.
From here we continue to descend to Banthanti, which is at the ridges of the rivers and mountains. Furthermore, we will walk about 1 and half hour zig zag road sometimes ascending and sometimes descending to reach Tadapani, our final destination for a day. From Tadapani, we can see the mesmerizing view of Mt. Fishtail, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli and other small peaks. This place is also famous for the rhododendron, at spring we can see everywhere red covered with rhododendron and by keeping the Hiunchuli at the background and rhododendron at foreground we can see the mouthwatering view.

Day 06: Trek to – Landrung/Tolka (1645 m) in 6h via Ghandrung (1940m)

The trail gently descends through a subtropical forest highlighted by huge bamboo massifs and giant rhododendrons. While on our way to Ghandruk, we will be accompanied by the majestic and magnificent Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Range giving us some beautiful moments of its natural settings, especially the Annapurna South peak. This village is predominantly home to the Gurung community who has a rich culture and traditions. You can also meet some Gurkhas who had served in the British Army during the World War II. Since the promotion of the trekking trail, this place is famous interms of Gurkha settlements and the culture of Gurung culture and hospitality with other minor indigenous group of people. This place carries the history of the courageous Nepalese people from long time. We continue our descent to the Modi Khola river then climb up to Landrung. If you time and body feels to move further then can climb up to Tolka for an hour from where can see loop of valley and can be the shorter for the next morning.

Day 07: Trek to Forest Camp. (2550m) 4/5 Hrs

Almost the whole day is climbing up as we have to gain altitude. Along the way we walk past deciduous vegetation and the view of two of the highest mountains in the world, Dhaulagiri and Annapurna will be with us throughout the trail. Overnight at camp.

Day 08: Trek to High Camp. (4100m) 5 Hrs

Our day starts after the warm breakfast served at the forest camp. Although the walk today is not very long but since it is steep and in some places difficult to climb we will take our time and try to reach the high camp by the late afternoon. Going slow and steady helps to do the trek with more enjoyment.

Day 09: Trek to the Base Camp (4500m) & return to High Camp. 5 Hrs

Today is the most exciting day of the trip as we are climbing up to the base camp of Mardi Himal. This is the main highlight of the trip. We start the day after a early breakfast and start climbing up. This is also the most challenging part of the trek as the trail is small and difficult to walk in some places. After spending some time at the much awaited base camp of the Mardi Himal we descent down to the high camp. Altogether it takes about 7 hours for the whole trip today.

Day 10: Trek to Siding Village. (1280m) 5/6 Hrs

We have a long descent ahead of us today as for almost 7 hours we continuously go down with occasional climbs. We reach the Siding village in the late afternoon and camp over there.

Day 11: Trek to Lumre and drive to Pokhara. (850m)

We start walking after the breakfast and head towards Lumre. Along the way we pass the settlements of Gurung and Tamang community. You will have plenty of time to interact and observe the lifestyle of these people known for their bravery as Gurkhas around the world. Our vehicle will pick us up and drive us back to Pokhara, which takes an hour.

Day 12:Fly/Drive to KathmanduFly/Drive to Kathmandu

Today either you can fly to Kathmandu which will be 30 minutes worthy flight where you can see the changing natural vegetation with Himalayan Range or you can drive from Pokhara. The drive will be scenic and you will get opportunity to experience the highway of Nepal.

Day 13: Sightseeing of Kathmandu Durbar Square and Swayambhunath. Late Afternoon free & Easy.

After a nice breakfast an experienced city guide will accompany you through the small alleys into the Kathmandu Durbar Square. The seat of royalty until the 20th century and a living museum. It has monuments as old as 800 years old. Then you visit the Swayambhunath stupa situated on a hilltop about 3 km away from the city center. It is also referred as the monkey temple. Both of these places are UNESCO world heritage sites. You can go around Thamel in the afternoon for last minute shopping for the trek if you have missed something

Day 14: Depart Kathmandu to reach another destination or fly back home with memories of the trek.

You can depart from Kathmandu to your home country or extend the trip and head for another trip within or outside Nepal
Note: This itinerary is only a guideline and we can customize it as per your request. You can add rest days in between, ask for an alternate route (if available) and add other destinations like Pokhara and Chitwan if you wish to visit any before or after the trek.
