Makalu Base Camp Trek in Nepal along Arun Valley of Makalu Himal Trek or Sherpani Col Pass trek is real adventurous trekking. This trek takes us to an adventure of three cols of trekking and mountaineering paradise. Trek of Sherpani col pass takes you to Makalu Base Camp (5250 m). This trek lies inside Makalu Barun National Park and its conservation area. The Makalu Base camp Lodge trek is a true adventure with scenery so beautiful that it will never tire you. This trek is an adventurous expedition in the region of the Great Mountains.

Makalu Base Camp Barun Valley trek starts with a flight to Tumlingtar and heads up the Arun River valley. After reaching to Sedua and Num, we will cross Shipton La Pass (4210 m). It lies in the upper Barun river valley with a close look at Makalu and Chamlang Himal. The Barun valley is a part of a huge international protected area. On this trek, we follow the same track to get back to Kathmandu.

This Makalu Base Camp Barun Valley Sherpani Col Pass trek is a pleasurable hike. Furthermore, this trek takes us to the calm valleys of the rhododendron forest. It is something that you don’t want to miss while having a trek in Nepal. This wonderful moment in the remoteness of Nepal can also be an option. As such trek will let you see the valley without any modern world facilities. You will get to experience a bit of stone-aged culture still prevail in Nepal.


Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu

Meet and Assist by Parikrama Treks representative. Transfer to Hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today we will visit the cultural heritage sites of Kathmandu. Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, and Bauddhanath. Short briefing about Makalu Barun trek in the evening.

Day 03: Flight to Tumlingtar / Trek to Khandbari ( 1,030 m / 2 hrs)

Early morning we take a flight to Tumlingtar and stary our trek to Khandbari. Khandbari which is the district headquarter of Shankhuwasabha

Day 04: Trek Khadbari to Chichila (1,830 m / 6 hrs)

Today trails are easiest as we pass through many small picturesque villages. Bamboo groves and a rhododendron forest cover most of the trail. Chichila is a small village with Gurungs settlements.

Day 05: Trek Chichila to Num (1,490 m / 6 hrs)

Today we will get a glimpse of the White Mountains like Makalu and its surrounding. After reaching the Num we set up camp.

Day 06: Trek Num to Sedawa (1,460 m / 6 hrs)

Today we descend in the steep rocky path to Lumbang. While descending you see small terraced farm planted with corn and barley. Then we ascend to Sedua on a tough path.

Day 07: Trek Sedawa to Tashi Gaon (2,070 m / 6 hrs)

This day we walk through the large meadows and cross several streams. Finally, we ascend to the Sherpa village of Tashi Gaon. It is the last permanent settlement in the valley.

Day 08: Trek Tashi gaun to Kauma Danda (3,470 m / 7 hrs)

Today trails are a steep ascent through sparse forests along the ridge. It leads to the hillock point before we descend Kauma at 3,470 m.

Day 09: Trek Kauma Danda to Mumbuk (3,570 m / 8 hrs)

A steep climb then through rhododendron forests makes the start fo the day. We enjoy the excellent views of Chamlang (7,290 m) Peak 6 (6,739 m) and Peak 7 (6,105 m).

Day 10: Trek Mumbuk to Nehe Kharka via Tutu-La pass (4,075 m / 5 hrs)

Today trail is a little bit gully with a stream through rocky trail and sometimes muddy terrain. It leads up to the glacial valley. From here we can have good views of Peak 6. From Nehe Kharka you will have great mountain views.

Day 11: Trek Nehe Kharka to Sherson (4,615 m / 7hrs)

This day is difficult as we have to walk long hours. We have to climb up for several hours.

Day 12: Trek Sherson to Makalu Base Camp (4,800m / 5 hrs)

Today we head to Makalu Base camp. From the camp, we see the close-up view of Makalu. It is the sixth highest mountain in the world along with its surrounding mountains.

Day 13: Trek Makalu Base Camo to Swiss Base Camp (5,150 m / 6 hrs)

From Makalu Base Camp we follow the trail that passes through Hillary Base Camp. We then walk along a smaller trail on the south side of Barun Glacier Valley and camp at Swiss Base Camp.

Day 14: Trek Swiss Base Camp to Sherpani Col Base Camp (5,700 m / 7 hrs)

The trail from here becomes hard as it climbs towards a steep boulder-filled gully. From there an hour of climbing leads us to Sherpani Col Base Camp at the snout of a glacier.

Day 15: Acclimatization at Sherpani Col Base Camp.

Before crossing the challenging passes we make sure that our body has acclimatized. So today we take a rest day for acclimatizing.

Day 16: Cross Sherpani Col (6,180 m) to Baruntse Base Camp (9 hrs)

We make an early start for the crossing of the challenging pass Sherpani Col.

Day 17: Cross West Col (6,100 m) / trek to Amphu Labsta Base Camp (5,400 m / 8 hrs)

Today, we follow a trail that climbs a loose rocky route reaching the southern end.

Day 18: Cross Amphu Laptsa pass (5,850 m) / Trek to Imja valley (5,100 m / 9 hrs)

This day we enter the Everest region trekking trail. We entered the Imja valley where we set up camp.

Day 19: Trek Chhukung to Tengboche ( 3,867 m / 6 hrs)

This day from the valley we descend down to Tengboche. We pass through the forest of rhododendron and pine. In Tengboche, we visit the Monestry consider to be the highest mountain in the world.

Day 20: Trek Tengboche to Namche (3,440 m / 5hrs)

We descend on the steep path to the Dudh Kosi and then climb up to Namche Bazaar.

Day 21: Trek Namche to Lukla (2,840 m / 6 hrs)

Finally, we return to Lukla. It is also a place from where Everest Base Camp trek begins or starts.

Day 22: Flight to Kathmandu

You will get to see the last glimpse of the mountains on your 35-minute Scenic flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 23: Leisure day in Kathmandu

It’s also a spare day in case of bad weather in Lukla.

Day 24: Departure
