Kailash Overland Tour via Kerung takes you to the holy land of Mt. Kailash through the newly opened Nepal- Tibet border of Rasuwagadhi-Kerung. The team of Touch Kailash Travels & Tours will embark on a journey to take you to worship and hike around the sacred land of Mt. Kailash. Started in September 2017 as an alternative route for the Mount Kailash, this tour has made Mt. Kailash easily accessible from the outskirts of Nepal. Kailash Overland Tour starts with a sightseeing tour at the capital city of Nepal. The guided tour will take us to the UNESCO listed world heritage sites of the valley. After the guided tour, we will get ourselves inside the Langtang National Park and cross the Nepal-Tibet border to arrive at Kerung. From Kerung, we will drive to the villages of Saga, Mansarovar, and Darchen with great views of the sacred Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurla-Mandala, Rakshash Lake and the Lake Mansarovar. On day 9, we will start our 3 days long Kailash Kora. The major attractions of this tour include the sacred peak of Kailash, holy Lake of Mansarovar and the highest pass of Drolma La.The Kailash Overland Tour takes 13 days for completion based on our default itinerary. The trip can be tailored to your preference. The best time to visit the holy Mt. Kailash is between May-August.

Overland tour to Kailash via Kerung boarder is 13 days comfortable program. Journey starts from Kathmandu Nepal to Kerung boarder through Langtang National Park. This is an alternative route of Kodari boarder open from 2017 for Kailash pilgrimage. Kerung itself is about 3000 miters altitude; staying one more day for acclimatization here helps to adjust your body in high altitude. After driving from here, we reach at Tibetan town Saga within a single day. From Saga, it is a day driving to reach Holy Lake Mansarovar. At the bank of Lake Mansarovar, pilgrimages specially worship themselves. A good view of Mount kailash south face appears from here. Mount Kailash is secreted and Holy Mountain in western Tibet. Thousand of pilgrimages come to make parikrama of this mountain every year. Mostly pilgrimages are from Indian and China. Remote area of Tibet, Mount Kailash and surroundings is scenic plateau land with scenic Himalayas, big lakes, hot spring and typical Tibetan settlement. Take a part of three days Kailash parikrama, reaching at Kailash North Face, crossing highest pass Dolama La, Gaurii Kunda is the toughest part of Yatra. Mount Kailash is Holy Mountain for four religions and for billions of Peoples. Four religions are Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and bon. Hindu believes that Mount Kailash is a home of Lord Shiva and his beloved Parvathi. They reach at Mount Kailash to have darsan of Lord Shiva and Parvathi. Buddhist believes Kailash as home as Buddha Demchok, who represents supreme bliss. There are numerous sights around Kailash which represent Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche). Guru Rinpoche practices tantric Buddhism in Kailash region and finally he established Buddhism as a main religion in Tibet. In Jainism, Mount Kailash is known as Sumeru Parvat. Asthapath next to Mount Kailash is the site where Jain Tirthankara, Rishabhadeva attained Moksa (liberation). Similarly Bon is native religion to Tibet, they maintain that the entire mystical region and the nine stories Swastika Mountain are the seat of all spiritual power. Mount Kailash is not allowed to climb due to it being the abode of God. At the foot of Mount Kailash lies holy Lake Mansarovar. Mansarovar is the highest freshwater lake in the world. It is the holiest Lake as an important pilgrimage destination of millions pilgrimage. It is believe that one who takes bath and drinks its water, all the sins remove done in life time. As per Hindu legacy, Manasarovar was created by Bhrahma to provide appropriate place for religious rituals. As per Buddhism, buddha’s mother was transported in this lake by the gods, where she bathed in the sacred water of Lake Mansarovar until her body was purified. She than saw a white elephant running to her from Mount Kailash, as the Buddha entered inside her womb. Pilgrimage also circumambulate the Lake; visit each monasteries along the way.

Itinerary

Day 01"Arrive in Kathmandu (1300 m).

Welcome at the Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu. Our representative will greet you and escort you to the hotel for check-in and stay overnight Hotel Tibet or similar.”

Day 02"Kathmandu valley sightseeing and Drive to Trishuli 70 KM 3 Hour.

After breakfast sightseeing of major heritage sites of Kathmandu valley. Visit Pashupatinath, Swoyanbhunath and Kathmandu Durbar squire. Back to hotel and Drive to Trishuli. Overnight at Hotel Best Hotel B/L/D.”

Day 03"DRIVE, TRISHULI- SHYABRUBESHI - CROSS THE BORDER THEN DRIVE TO KYIRONG VALLEY

Early morning, you will be setting off for Syabrubeshi. Syabrubeshi, a small town, borders with Kyirong county of Tibet/ China, situated about 170 km north of Kathmandu. This fascinating country drive takes approximately 8 hours to reach Syabrubeshi. Some 70 km part of the highway is very slender; so it can be a risky journey to drive fast. Lunch will be served on the way & overnight stay in guesthouse/ hotel in Keyrung Valley. You will cross the friendship bridge and go through the immigration formalities and continue drive to Kyirong valley. It is 22 km driving distance from Friendship Bridge to Kyirong valley Guest House B/L/D. ”

Day 04"Drive Keyrung Valley to Saga.

The very first Tibetan town you will reach from Kyirong is Saga. Saga is situated at the bank of River Brahmaputra that origins in Kailash. From Kailash the river flows to Lhasa then drops to Asam from Arunchal Pradesh. Our destination of today is old Dongba. Old Dongba is about 140 km far from Saga. The total driving hours of today is 220 km and it takes about 5 hours. ” 4500m Saga Grand Hotel B/L/D

Day 05"REST IN SAGA FOR ACCLIMATIZATION PURPOSE

Today, you will stay in Kyirong for acclimatization purpose. It is advisable to walk around the city to keep your body active. It is also better to do a mild hiking during the day time and keep drinking lots of water.” 4500m Saga Grand Hotel B/L/D

Day 07DRIVE, LAKE MANASAROVAR TO DARCHEN

Darchen is situated 35 km north of lake manasarovar is a small town on the foothill of Kailash. Also, this is the gateway to Parikrama. From here, the trek starting point (Yama Dwar) is about 5 km. ”

Day 08"DRIVE, TO YAMA DWAR THEN START TREKKING TO DHIRAPUK VIA DARCHEN

Darchen is the gateway of trekking around mount Kailash. It is situated on the foothill of mount Kailash, below the south face. Asthapad is situated 4 km up in the mountain and Tarboche (Yama Dwar) is 7 km west from Darchen. A complete circumambulation of mount Kailash commences from this point and ends here. The total circumference of mount Kailash from Darchen to Darchen is 52 km. Darchen offers an array of accommodation-quality than any other places en route to Kailash. Deraphuk stands at an elevation of 4920 m. The north face of mount Kailash is just a few thousands meters away from here. This is the only place to have a close view of north face. ”

Day 09"TREK TO SHIVASTHAL, GAURIKUNDA (5620 m) THEN ZUTULPHUK

Today is the toughest & longest journey of this trip. We have to trek almost 22 km through rugged highland to reach Zutulphuk. Literally, we have to pack up our gear and set off from hotel at 5 a.m. Chinese time. Initially, it is an uphill trek from Deraphuk but after walking for an hour or so, the trail turns into mild ascend. Half of the trail passes through an elevation of 4900 m./16,000 ft. or above, so there is no wonder if we get suffered from breathlessness or headache. Though, we should try to keep our pace slow & steady.
From Gauri kunda, the trail leads us rapidly down through the area full of boulders and loose pebbles. Going down can be difficult and painful than coming up. If we have taken horse, we can’t even use it in this bit. After trekking down for another 1 & half hour or so from Gauri Kunda, we will eventually reach to the valley floor. From this point on, the trail is easy & flat. It is another 2 hours easy-walk to reach Zutulphuk from here.”

Day 10"TREK, ZUTULPHUK TO TREK ENDING POINT, Drive to SAGA. OVERNIGHT

Today is the last day of this divine circumambulation. Morning after breakfast, we pack up our gear and move on to Darchen. The entire trail is easy and flat. The trek takes about 3 hours to complete. Our Vehicle is waiting for us at the final point; which is before Darchen. We board on the Bus then start our journey to Saga Overnight”

Day 11"SAGA TO KYIRONG

Morning after breakfast, we pack up our belongings then set off for Paryang. Today, we traverse approximately 210 km to reach Kyirong. On the way, we cross Saga and river Brahmaputra then drive take right turn to Kyirong before we reach Peiku lake.”

Day 12"RETURN BACK TO KATHMANDU

After breakfast, we drive down to the border then continue drive to Kathmandu. The drive takes about 6 hours to reach Kathmandu. Evening free for independent activities.” 1310m Hotel Tibet or Similar
